What are Tax Sale Properties?

Tax Sale Properties are properties that have had outstanding property taxes for at least two consecutive years. After a two year period of tax arrears, the municipal treasurer registers a tax arrears certificate against the property in question. Property owners are given one year from the date of the certificate registration to pay the tax arrears.

Still, these taxes often go unpaid... and the properties are put up for auction, allowing an individual to buy a piece of real estate and usually pay far less than the market value for the property.
